Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Monday that former premier Nawaz Sharif clarified to him that his statement about the Mumbai attack was "misreported".
The spokesman said the PML-N as the country's premier popular national political party and its supreme leader (Nawaz Sharif) need no certificate from anybody on their commitment and capacity to preserve, protect and promote Pakistan's national security.
Nawaz, while talking to reporters outside an accountability court in Islamabad, read excerpts from his interview with The Dawn during which he spoke on matters related to the country's foreign policy.
Sharif, as per an exclusive Dawn news report, in that meeting had raised the issue of Pakistan's growing worldwide isolation because of behind-the-scenes support by military to banned terror groups, including Jaish-e-Muhammad, Jamaat-ud-Dawa and the Haqqani Network. "Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai" Mumbai?
Earlier in the day, a press statement issued after the NSC meeting said: "The participants observed that it was very unfortunate that the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances was being presented in disregard of concrete facts and realities".
He went on to say that New Delhi pressurized the PML-N government through the USA following which Sharif ordered armed forces to withdraw from Kargil. Now that Sharif is a spent force, his confession has not come at a time when it had to come.

Sherry Rehman, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) senator and leader of the opposition in the Senate, slammed Sharif on Sunday, saying the former PM had backed PM Narendra Modi's stance and compromised Pakistan's narrative in the war against terrorism.
India blamed the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the 2008 attack on the city of Mumbai.
However, Mr. Sharif, stated that he stands by his remarks.
Sharif's statement has left the Pakistan Army extremely anxious that "this will give more weight to India's narrative that Pakistan is not doing enough" with respect to the 26/11 trial, and could even put Pakistan on the blacklist of global financial trade agreements.
