Deadly Winds Sweep Across Northeast Killing at Least Two

An 11-year-old girl died in Newburgh, New York, when a large tree fell on the vehicle she was in, police said.

In Connecticut, a man was killed when a tree fell on his truck. The severe threat ended overnight into Wednesday.

At least two persons have been killed and hundreds of thousands left without power as a powerful storm pummelled the Northeast US with drenching rain, golf-ball-sized hail and damaging winds. The risk of flooding continues in the area Wednesday. The mother suffered minor injuries.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency in several counties in southeast New York and deployed members of the New York National Guard to assist with the recovery.

A strong storm, bringing down trees and poles, caused a fire in Rutherford, new Jersey. Several lightning strikes led to structure fires in New Jersey and MA.

Roads in many towns were impassible and some schools cancelled classes due to the damage.
