The changes concerning misconduct have come a month after Uber announced that it will carry out criminal background checks on its USA drivers annually and add a 911 button for summoning assistance in case of emergencies; an effort to keep people from using its service to prey on possible victims. Uber argued that the women will have to bring other claims in the suit, including unfair business practices, to an arbitrator. The San Francisco based ride-hailing company confirms that it's ending the use of forced arbitration agreements for employees, riders, and drivers.

This means anyone who claims they that have been assaulted and wants to sue Uber can pursue their case in open court and appeal for a trial by jury.

Uber announced Tuesday that its new policies would include the publishing of "a safety transparency report that will include data on sexual assaults and other incidents that occur on the Uber platform".

The decision comes only two weeks after CNN concluded its investigation and reported its results, which discovered that at least 103 Uber drivers in the US have been accused of sexually assaulting or abusing their passengers in the past four years. "We desire individuals to acknowledge the enormity of the concern, and we desire us to start to think about positive methods to prevent and end sexual assault".

Assault and harassment cases are now exempt from that requirement.

He joined Uber as the company was going under a public and top of the food chain transformation. While it's easy to pick on individual companies like Uber for having policies like this, the truth is that they're just doing what all companies do.

The Uber news was announced a day ahead of a court-mandated deadline for the company to respond to a proposed class action lawsuit filed by law firm Wigdor LLP on behalf of nine women accusing drivers of sexual assault.

"It starts with improving our product and policies, but it requires so much more, and we're in it for the long haul", West concluded in the post. Dara Khosrowshahi has been taking steps to address the company's issues.

Jeanne M. Christensen, the partner at Wigdor handling the case, said in a statement, "Congratulations to Uber for choosing not to silence survivors". But she said in a written statement Tuesday that Uber continues to fight against class-action status for the 14 women she represents, showing it is "not fully committed to meaningful change" because victims are more likely to pursue claims as part of a group.
