Amanda Nunes

Saturday didn't provide almost the suspense as Nunes continually battered Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 for her seventh straight win and third since taking the belt from Miesha Tate in 2016. Souza got the fight to the ground in the first round and dominated the grappling exchange, getting to mount multiple times.

Nunes, 29, said she didn't know about everything that had happened before returning to the locker room after her successful title defense.

Pennington had had enough by the end of the fourth round, but her corner persuaded her to continue the contest, although the fifth didn't last long.

From the third round on it seemed smooth sailing for Nunes who wasn't affected by Pennington's strikes, walking forward and landing her own attacks whenever she pleased.

"It's sad. I think she really needs to surround herself with people that want the best for her so she can evolve in her next fight".

By the end of the third round Pennington's left eye appeared swollen and she struggled to create any real threat for Nunes. She went out there, and she got finished.

Pennington told the members of her team she was "done". It might be a bad injury. In the clip below, her cornerman rejected her claims at being done, saying he knows she hurts and stating, 'We'll recover later'. And I would have done the same thing because sometimes when you're exhausted and you don't think you have enough left, your coach's job is to pull the most out of you.

The Brazilian won three of her four bouts via knockout, and her reign as the UFC women's bantamweight champion is now the second longest, only behind Rousey who was champion for just under three years in the UFC.

"To defend this belt is something I dream, and I have to do it".
