The device will be used for both virtual and augmented reality, and if the report is indeed accurate, will contains a pair of 8K displays. It is a known fact that Apple has invested a lot in AR/VR and by 2020, the company could launch a game-changing device. The project, the reports adds, is codenamed T288. Google is also working towards developing a VR headset with high resolution 120 Hz display that will be released by the Cupertino tech giant next month.

CNET reports that Apple has its eye set on the 2020 arrival of a remote headset that consolidates AR and VR advancements.

Previous rumors have claimed that the headset will run on a new operating system dubbed "rOS". If only Apple comes out with one in the days to come, that is. Which is finally making headlines in reality.

The development of augmented reality is high on the list of priorities for Apple, as previously revealed by CEO Tim Cook.

Just yesterday we highlighted a new patent from Apple for eye-tracking in a VR/AR headset - the latest in a long string of breadcrumbs from the company indicating spatial computing continues to be an area of extreme interest. It would connect wirelessly to a chunk of hardware like a small tower, which would contain powerful processors to power the experience.

The report further sheds some light on what a user can expect from the setup, by stating that the "box" would be powered by a custom 5nm processor that is said to be "more powerful than anything now available" in the market, and it is said to be similar to the in-house chip that would be powering the future MacBooks. This processor would work as a brain of the headset and the headset would be controlled by the built-in processor itself.

The headset will also have cameras on the outside that will detect its surroundings.

The use of an 8k display on each eye and the 5nm processor seems like the hardest part to achieve here.
