Russell Crowe's Divorce Auction Rakes in $2.8 Million, Sees Frenzied Bidding for 'Gladiator' Items

Piers Morgan secretly bids on two major items from Russell Crowe's 'Art of Divorce' auction -spending $14500 on a

Russell Crowe has sold some of his prized possessions - what he calls his "stuff", including film props, costumes, Australian art and jewellery - at his so-called "divorce auction" in Sydney on Saturday.

The breastplate he wore for his death scene in the film sold for Aus$125,000 while a wooden training sword went for Aus$20,000 and a metal one for Aus$70,000.

Russell Crowe has celebrated his 54th birthday - and what would have been his 15th wedding anniversary - by holding an "art of Divorce" auction, which included items from some of his most successful movies.

The chariot used within the epic movie, through which the New Zealand actor performed general-turned-gladiator Maximus Decimus Meridius, bought for $65,000 (£35,488).

A leather jockstrap worn by Crowe in the 2005 movie Cinderella Man was won by a telephone bidder for $7000.

Actor Russell Crowe is holding his "Art of Divorce" auction - a sort of parting of the wares - in Sydney.

On Friday, Crowe told Good Morning Britain that the jock strap was "one of the most popular items" ahead of Saturday's aucution.

Tesla Misses Model 3 Production Target for First Quarter
Evercore isn't the only sell-side firm with newfound caution following Tesla's miss of Model 3 production targets. The news isn't entirely rosy as Tesla confirmed nearly all Model 3 cancellations have been the result of delays.

That far outstripped the A$135,000 paid for the Leandro Bislach violin played by Crowe's character in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

After a nine-year marriage and a subsequent six-year separation, the Oscar victor and the singer/songwriter are making it official by signing the divorce papers. "Are you having a little bit of fun?"

More surprisingly, a costume that Crowe wore in the same 2003 film was not far behind, raking in 115,000 Australian dollars (£62,635).

"It's been a lot of fun putting it together for you".

Bidders' interest had been expected to focus on the violin and paraphernalia from "Gladiator", the 2000 blockbuster that earned Crowe his Academy Award for Best Actor.

Russell told the boys they aren't the only Go Fund Me Page trying to secure the Gladiotor chariot, as reported in radioinfo yesterday - there are a group of history teachers also trying to buy it.

"Look at that, something for everyone", auctioneer Martin Gallon quipped as he opened bidding for a life-sized horse prop that was snapped up for $5500. The items had an 85 percent clearance rate, and all winning bids were topped with a 22 percent commission fee.
