The morning rain/snow ends by the end of the morning commute. Minor ice accumulations are also possible. The overnight low in the area was expected to bottom out at a frigid 28 degrees, well below normal and more than 40 degrees below the day's high.
The last time the NYC saw heavy snowfalls was more than a hundred years ago, on April 3, 1915, when the city was blanketed in 10 inches (25 cm) of snow.
According to data provided by Weather Underground, the record high was 83 degrees in 1963 and the record low was 15 degrees in 1985.
The temperatures have warmed up into the mid-30s and are expected to get a little but warmer as the day goes on.
