Apple Developing Curved iPhone Display, Touchless Control Technology

Apple's entry-level iPad tablet is now compatible with the company's Pencil stylus a device that once only worked with high-end iPad Pro models

Apple is reportedly in the early stages of developing two features for future iPhones: touchless gesture controls and curved screens.

The company's logo is seen outside Austria's first Apple store, which opens on February 24, during a media preview in Vienna, Austria, February 22, 2018. In particular, the jump in performance was, even for those Apple devices that appeared two or three years ago.

Apple's latest iPhones have a feature called 3D Touch that responds differently depending on different finger pressures. Potentially, this might be meant to serve a similar objective as the 3D Touch feature that Apple has been including in iPhones since 2015. The 10th anniversary iPhone's OLED display curves slightly at the bottom though it isn't that visible to the human eye. One source told Bloomberg Technology that the unique technology would let users perform some tasks on their iPhone without really touching its display. Samsung is already working on a foldable smartphone, while Huawei is seeing increased success in Asia.

In a takeover twist, Fox says Disney may buy Sky News
The CMA had also stated in January that its media plurality concerns would fall away on completion of Disney's Fox takeover. The company, however, needs to persuade another regulator, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and the government.

Touchless gesture control would allow end users to hover their finger over the display and still be able to interact with onscreen options. Rather than having motion sensors in the bezel, Bloomberg says that the display itself will act as a sensor and your hands will have to be much closer to the screen to register and use touchless gestures.

While the Apple projects aren't imminent, the company has near-term plans to expand OLED technology to more devices, according to other people familiar with the matter.

Bloomberg also reinforces rumors that Apple is planning on releasing another iPhone with the iPhone X's OLED display later this year. As the iPad Pro 2018 uses the Face ID, the tablet is expected to get the iPhone X-like notch on the top portion of the display, where the TrueDepth camera sensors are placed.
