Bodies of Indian workers murdered by IS in Iraq return home
The mortal remains of the 39 Indians killed by ISIS in Iraq's Mosul were on Sunday handed over to Indian authorities in Baghdad.
According to reports, he will first travel to Amritsar in Punjab to hand over 27 bodies, the maximum, to their families.
The Indian embassy in Iraq, along with departments in Iraq, is working with the certification and documentation process of the mortal remains of the 39 Indians, and the same will be completed by Sunday.
It is now known that MoS Singh will return to Amritsar and then to Kolkata and Patna.
The mortal remains of the 39 Indians who were killed by the ISIS following their abduction in 2014 will be brought back to India on Monday.
"I am going to Mosul to get mortal remains of 38 Indians; we would not get one man's remains as his case is still pending", Singh told news agency ANI.
Families of some of these victims had met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on March 26.
The bodies were stored in a freezer at the Medico Legal Institute of Iraq in Baghdad. "We will handover the mortal remains to their families".
The group of Indian labourers, mostly from Punjab, was taken hostage by ISIS when it overran Iraq's second largest city Mosul in 2014.
Sangha also added that according to the information they have received, the bodies are expected to reach the global airport in Amritsar at around 1:30 pm Tuesday. The remaining 39 were taken to Badoosh and killed.
