Malala visits hometown in Swat Valley

Security high in Pakistan's Swat but Nobelist's visit uncertain

After her brief stay at home, Malala, who on Thursday set foot in Pakistan for the first time since the 2012 attack, was airlifted to the Swat Cadet College where she is expected to address a ceremony, they said.

Malala is nonetheless a polarizing figure in Pakistan, where some critics on social media have tried to undermine her efforts to promote girls' education.

Security was beefed up in Mingora, Yousafzai's hometown, but authorities wouldn't confirm whether she would be arriving there.

She will return to Pakistan when she finishes United Kingdom race: "My plan is to go back to Pakistan as soon as I finish school, because it is my country and I have same rights in it as any Pakistani".

In 2014, she jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Indian rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, becoming the youngest person ever to do so.

Malala Yousafzai landed in the Swat valley Saturday for her first visit back to the once militant-infested Pakistani region where she was shot in the head by the Taliban more than five years ago.

The Nobel peace laureate visited the Swat Valley under tight security.

According to her uncle Mahmoodul Hassan, she is visiting her home and also plans to meet with her friends and relatives.

Two security officials said the trip to Swat would likely be just for one day. "It is her wish to again see her hometown, her school and her home, where she spent years of her life", she told The Associated Press.

Her family also told AFP of their joy in coming home.

Mega Millions numbers: 11, 28, 31, 46, 59, Mega Ball 1
When asked what he would do if finding himself the victor of the mega Millions jackpot, his answer was surprising. And when there's this much on the line, he's also trying to convince friends and family members to buy tickets.

Interestingly, she called Swat "a piece of heaven". I said thank you.

"The most attractive place on earth to me", she wrote.

"What I want is for people to support my objective of education and think about the daughters of Pakistan who need an education", she told Pakistan's The News in comments published on Saturday.

Since her attack and recovery, Yousafzai has led the Malala Fund, which she said has invested $6 million in schools and to provide books and uniforms for schoolchildren.

It is unclear if Yousafzai will visit her native village in the neighbouring district of Shangla, located about 35km from Mingora, where her Malala Fund has helped build a new secondary school for children in the area.

Speaking to the students of Cadet College, she said: "Peace has been restored in the country due to sacrifices of security forces".

Discussing her future endeavors, she remarked that Pakistan and Nigeria had topped the list for most numbers of girls outside schools.

She arrived in Pakistan on Thursday and was greeted with honours by the government and institutions. On Friday in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore and in several other cities, an association of private schools observed "I Am Not Malala Day", with schoolchildren and teachers holding placards opposing her.

"What I want is for people to support my goal of education and think about the daughters of Pakistan who need an education", she told the newspaper.
