War hero McMaster bows out after mostly unsuccessful bid to curb Trump
The appointment of John Bolton to be the Trump administration's third national security adviser in the past 14 months, signals a more confrontational approach to the world from an already belligerent regime.
John Bolton's appointment as US National Security Adviser should have been impossible, if Donald Trump's tweets were set in stone.
But in his first year in office, Trump chafed under the moderating influence of his second national security adviser H.R. McMaster and his now sacked secretary of state Rex Tillerson.
"Actually although it's certainly true the normal route here is months and months and months of preparation, that would simply play into the North Korean playbook: what they've done many times before", he said, adding that Pyongyang and Washington would need to begin "concrete" discussions on denuclearization as soon as possible. "The timeline was expedited as they both felt it was important to have the new team in place, instead of constant speculation", a White House official said.
"I am very thankful for the service of General H R McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will always remain my friend", Trump said. There will be an official contact handover on 4/9. "The good thing about John Bolton, President Trump's new national security adviser, is that he says what he thinks".
As he confronts matters of war and peace with North Korea and Iran, Trump is bringing in an adviser likely to magnify many of his own instinctive qualities: hard-hitting, fiercely nationalistic and eager to confront United States adversaries. McMaster will retire from the military.
Veteran Israeli diplomat Ambassador Yoram Ettinger toldWIN, "The appointment of Bolton serves as a thundering message to the world that the United States is serious about overhauling and upgrading its posture of deterrence which was severely eroded during Bush's second term and during eight years of the Obama presidency".
An internal investigation into the leak is underway, said a White House official who - like others interviewed about the announcement and the White House shakeup - demanded anonymity to discuss internal matters.
McMaster told The New York Times previous year that Trump's unorthodox approach "has moved a lot of us out of our comfort zone, me included".
Messi to return in Spain friendly And despite training with Argentina he is going to be given time off to recover with the World Cup coming up this summer. But Spain and Argentina fans hoping for a glimpse of him will be disappointed at the match in Madrid tonight.
McMaster had told confidants he would leave the post if at any point he lost credibility on the worldwide stage, according to three White House officials.
The US Vice President Mike Pence has described Bolton as a "highly respected American patriot".
And at a time when Trump is staking out a softer path for diplomacy with North Korea by accepting an invitation to sit down for direct talks with Kim Jong Un, Bolton has struck a very different tone in arguing that there is a legal case for a pre-emptive strike against North Korea. Flynn is now cooperating with investigators looking into potential collusion between Russian Federation and Trump's campaign and other potential misdeeds by Trump and those in the president's orbit.
The same personnel who were disposed of by McMaster are intent on returning to the National Security Council, and the recent change in leadership may give them their chance to return.
Candidate Trump appeared on "Meet the Press" in the summer of 2015 just weeks after announcing his run for president.
The two have never gotten along, and Trump continues to chafe at McMaster's demeanor when he briefs him, feeling that he is gruff and condescending, according to a source who is familiar with his thinking.
Just last Friday, senior White House officials assured reporters McMaster would not be fired.
Trump and Bolton also have volatile tempers and a tendency to want to fire those who challenge them.
