On NBC's Meet the Press Sunday Sen. Elizabeth Warren tells Chuck Todd that her heritage never helped her gain a professional advantage

A MA newspaper has challenged Warren to clear up questions about her claims to Native American heritage by taking a DNA test.

Trump has long referred to Warren as "Pocahontas", even in front of decorated Navajo veterans in the Oval Office, in reference to controversy over her claim of Native American ancestry.

Warren listed herself as Native American in order to receive preferential hiring treatment when she applied to become a professor at Harvard Law School.

On Sunday, NBC's "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd brought up a MA newspaper editorial calling on her to take a DNA test and asked, "What do you think of that idea?" During her interview, Warren went into more detail about her ancestry. "It's a part of me, and nobody is going to take that part of me away - not ever", Warren said. "I know who I am because of what my mother and my father told me, what my grandmother and my grandfather told me, what all my aunts and uncles told me and my brothers".

The senator, a potential 2020 Democratic presidential contender, has faced public questions over her citation of family stories to claim Cherokee and Delaware Indian heritage since her first bid for office in 2012. The kiss of death in a reelection campaign is to say you're going to try for another post once you get reelected.

CNN senior congressional correspondent Manu Raju said Monday that Sen.

"This is a group that is being injured every single day", Warren said.

"The generals have told us repeatedly there is no military-only solution", she said during an interview Friday, before a town hall meeting in Springfield. So she IS running for Senate.

"So look, I am not running for president of the United States", Warren answered.

Warren's response came after Todd read a portion of the editorial, posted on the television screen, that appeared in The Eagle's Tuesday edition. And never used it for anything. Without documentation for her assertions of native heritage, she is not. And he was head over heels in love with her and wanted to marry her. "We need to put some focus on this and we need to make some changes on this". A 2016 United States justice department survey said 56% of Native American women reported experiencing sexual violence.
