Twitter is looking into opening up its verification process for everyone.
Twitter's CEO Dorseysaid that Twitter is redesigning verification so that people can verify more facts about themselves and we don't have to be the judge or imply any intolerance on our part.
Verification initially started to curb the rash of accounts impersonating celebrities that briefly dominated early Twitter. Subsequently, the company began verifying other high-profile figures, including journalists, which made the checkmark perceived as a status symbol on the platform. However, in 2017, Twitter suspended this feature after it received backlash after the verification badge was given to controversial figures.
Dorsey then linked to an open application for proposals that will help Twitter "increase the collective health, openness, and civility of public conversation around the world, and to hold ourselves publicly accountable toward progress".

India Supreme Court restores 'love jihad' marriage The apex court had earlier allowed her to resume her Bachelors in Homeopatic Medicine and Surgery (BMHS) at a Salem-based college. On May 24, 2017, the Kerala HC declared the marriage a "sham", directing that she be returned to the "custody" of her parents.
In 2016, Twitter allowed anyone to request verification but asked users to justify the same. Twitter believes what they're saying something great and authentic, which is not at all what we mean by the checkmark.
However, in November past year, the micro-blogging site announced that it would soon suspend verification badges for some of its verified users, in lieu of the misconceptions hovering around its verification procedures. That's why Twitter's decision to verify white supremacists like Unite the Right rally organizer Jason Kessler has been contentious.
While Twitter expanding its verification process to include everyone would potentially solve the issue of conflating identity with credibility, it could also potentially harm Twitter's use for anonymous users.
During Thursday's Q&A, company officials said they were rethinking the "context" around every Twitter users' profile, like who they are, and their history on Twitter. If verification becomes a ubiquitous way to prove real users, then the unverified and possibly bot-run accounts could become more obvious. "We're going to be as open as we can", Dorsey said.
