Mueller, the former FBI director who is leading the investigation into possible ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, is also seeking any records Nunberg has relating to Trump and nine others involved with his administration, including emails and telephone logs, Nunberg said.

Despite that, Nunberg told MSNBC he got the impression from his interview that they had evidence implicating Trump.

Mueller is probing whether Trump's campaign aided Russian interference in the election.

Former Trump aide Sam Nunberg's unhinged Monday media blitz included a sit-down interview with CNN's Erin Burnett, during which she accused him of being drunk on her show, and it didn't go over well for the network with viewers.

"It is the biggest joke to ever think that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians", said Nunberg, who also spoke to the Washington Post and CNN.

He later added on CNN: "I'm not going to the grand jury".

"He hasn't worked at the White House, so I certainly can't speak to him or the lack of knowledge that he clearly has". "I don't think it's fair to ask for my personal communications".

It's unclear how much Nunberg would know about the inner workings of the Trump campaign or the White House.

United States regulators ask Qualcomm to delay shareholder meeting

By halfway through his media tour, Russian manipulation of US democracy was less of an intriguing question - he backtracked - than what the heck was wrong with Sam Nunberg?

TheDaily Beast reported that several of Nunberg's friends were concerned he had been drinking before the interviews.

"I think it would be really, really amusing if they wanted to arrest me because I don't want to spend 80 hours going over emails", he told MSNBC.

"You know [Trump] knew about it", Nunberg said during one of three interviews on CNN. I don't know what it is. Well, I'd like to have a dime or even a nickel for every person who has had a cocktail before appearing on TV. Is he trying to prod Trump into firing Mueller?

If Nunberg believes the document requests are overbroad, he can negotiate with Mueller's office to narrow the scope - or better yet, have an attorney talk to the special counsel's office to try to pinpoint more precisely what they are looking for.

"I have not had a drink", Nunberg insisted.

Apparently, it was something he heard on MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber" that led him to reconsider his position.

Nunberg repeatedly flaunted his defiance of an apparent subpoena that compels him to appear before the grand jury on March 9. "You don't want to be involved in alcohol", he said. He also suggested the special counsel insinuates that Roger Stone had collaborated with Julian Assange's WikiLeaks group which released documents hacked from Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign. They include Trump; departing White House communications director Hope Hicks; former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski; the president's former chief political strategist Steve Bannon; Trump's longtime bodyguard, Keith Schiller; former Trump Organization lawyer Michael Cohen; and Roger Stone, a longtime confidant and occasional adviser to Trump.
