The Giants will receive an extra fourth-round selection in the upcoming draft after the National Football League announced its compensatory picks on Friday.

However, compensatory picks are also limited to the number of teams in the league, so only 32 are given out each year.

In addition to the second pick in the fourth round, the compensatory pick will also allow the Giants to have the 35th selection in the fourth round, which is the No. 135 pick overall.

So how did New England earn the pick?

Compensatory picks can be traded, and with 10 selections and almost $26 million in projected salary cap space, the Broncos have options as they begin to retool their roster.

The Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos and Bengals were awarded the highest picks at the end of the third round: Nos. Both picks are in the sixth round. The most prominent player the Buccaneers have drafted using a compensatory pick is linebacker Alshermond Singleton, a 1997 fourth-round selection who started at strongside linebacker for the 2002 Super Bowl team.

Compensatory picks are slotted between the third and seventh rounds.

Most expected the Packers to gain four extra picks after losing several top players in free agency last offseason.
