Conservative users say Twitter removing thousands of followers
"Do not (and do not allow your users to) simultaneously post identical or substantially similar content to multiple accounts", writes Yoel Roth on the Twitter blog.
"Twitter's tools are apolitical, and we enforce our rules without political bias", a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement emailed to Ars.
The new changes by Twitter comes barely a month after Facebook overhauled how it ranks the posts, videos and photos that appear in its users' News Feeds.
The new changes are an effort to eliminate spam from Twitter.
Twitter today shared details on a new policy update to stop malicious activities on its platform.
The micro-blogging site will stop a user from simultaneously liking or retweeting a post, or following an account, from multiple accounts. Twitter noted last month that 50,000 Russia-affiliated bot accounts exposed almost 700,000 people to misinformation during the 2016 campaign.
In an entirely predictable development, Russia-based social media trolls haven't missed a beat in the wake of the 13 indictments that came down Friday. Numerous users locked out of their accounts were conservative voices on the platform, leading to calls of political bias, which the company denounced.
The social media service Twitter is believed to have suspended thousands of accounts for being automated bots, or for other policy violations, drawing outcry from fringe conservative media figures who lost followers in the move.
Another company, privately held online publisher Medium, recently removed accounts belonging to far-right U.S. commentators including Mike Cernovich, who said on his Twitter account on Wednesday that Medium was acting unlawfully. On the other hand, some people who complained about losing followers say they've gotten them back, presumably as real users verified their phone numbers after being flagged.
Soon after that, the #twitterlockout hashtag started trending on Twitter, as this temporary login issue happened without any prior notification from the company's side. "As part of our ongoing work in safety, we identify suspicious account behaviors that indicate automated activity or violations of our policies around having multiple accounts, or abuse".
The steps are part of Twitter's ongoing battle to reduce the amount of spam and bot activity now taking place on the site. Joss Whedon out of Batgirl, who will take over?
There really is no sexier way to put it: Joss Whedon failed at bringing Batgirl to the big screen before it even really started. Whedon also created the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., among others.
