Accused serial killer Bruce McArthur has been charged with three more counts of first-degree murder and investigators believe there are still more victims, Torontopolice said at a news conference Monday morning.
In addition to Esen and Kinsman, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, and Dean Lisowick disappeared between the years of 2012 and 2017.
Police initially arrested McArthur for the slayings of Selim Esen, 44, who went missing in April, and Andrew Kinsman, 49, who went missing in June. Both men were separately reported missing from the area of Church and Wellesley streets past year.
In addition to the three new charges, police said they have uncovered the remains of at least three unidentified bodies buried in planters at a home on Mallory Crescent where McArthur worked as a landscaper.
A suspected serial killer in Canada who is believed to have preyed on the LGBT community has been charged over an additional three murders as police search for more victims. The third victim is Soroush Marmudi, 50.
"I want people to feel free to say whatever they want so we can use that information constructively to make the relationship better", he said. The last two victims we've identified don't quite fit the profile of the earlier victims.
An alleged serial killer has been arrested in Toronto and is facing a string of murder charges over the deaths of men linked to Toronto's Gay Village.
The police offered few details about Mr. McArthur, his motive, his victims or how they died.
Mahmudi was reported missing from Scarborough by his family in 2015.
Kayhan, known to frequent the "Village" area around Church and Wellesley, was last seen October 14, 2012.
When the town hall was organized to discuss the rash of disappearances from the Village, members of the community voiced concerns that marginalized members of the community, such as sex workers and transgender individuals, may be overlooked by the investigation.
Lisowick was a resident of Toronto's shelter system, Idsinga said.
Kayhan was one of the three men whose disappearance from the Church-Wellesley Village was investigated by police during Project Houston in 2012.
At a town hall meeting last summer, members of Toronto's gay community, anxious that a serial killer was operating in their midst, warned that the city's sex workers might be particularly at risk. "We believe there are more remains at some of these properties that we are working to recover", Idsinga said.
Police now have plans to search at least 30 more properties where McArthur did landscaping.
Police have been busy searching dozens of properties in the GTA, as well as one near Madoc - about 220 kilometres northeast of Toronto - with suspected connections to the accused.
McArthur is now in custody, and will appear in court on February 14.
"They can't be identified because they are skeletal remains and they have been dismembered so we have to wait for DNA tests... before we can identify those remains".
