H&M faces backlash over 'monkey in the jungle' hoodie

H&M slammed over racist hoodie featuring black boy

Toronto-based rapper, The Weeknd, who released his own line with H&M past year, announced via Twitter that he will no longer be working with the company.

For its part, H&M released a statement apologizing and agreeing with those who were "upset about the image".

Retailer H&M is under fire after running a product photo featuring a black boy in a hoodie with the words "coolest monkey in the jungle" emblazoned on the front.

However, many have claimed that the "empty" apology came too late. "And the ads will be pulled", he posted on Instagram early Monday.

The retailer said Monday that the "image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we sincerely apologize to anyone this may have offended".

Los Angeles Rams face their biggest test of the season now
Goff finished 24 of 45 for 259 yards and a touchdown but it was not enough to beat a Falcons defense loaded up to stop the run. Devonta Freeman scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and led the Falcons' ground game with 66 yards.

The image, which appeared on the British version of H&M online store, was accused of being racist by hundreds of social media users on Sunday after the offending ad was screen-captured by blogger Stephanie Yeboah.

The hoodie, which was sold in the clothing chain's United Kingdom stores, sparked a social media backlash, with consumers vowing to stop shopping at its stores and calling for an investigation.

Fashion designer Alex Medina, actress Niecy Nash and Karamo Brown of "Queer Eye for Straight Guy" cast were also critical of H&M.

Obviously monkey-references have long-since been at the forefront of racial slurs targeting people of African descent and the Canadian-Ethiopian singer wasn't having it.
