Alexis Sanchez latest: Manchester City to make formal bid as Arsenal set £35million transfer fee

Report: Manchester City bid for Alexis Sanchez

City's £60 million bid for Sanchez in August collapsed after Arsenal failed in a deadline day attempt to sign Monaco's Thomas Lemar as a replacement.

Sanchez moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window after he snubbed a move to Liverpool FC.

Originally, they had planned to wait until the summer and sign him for free.

£25 million is a awful return for a player of Sanchez's calibre, even if he does have just six months left on his deal.

The Evening Standard reports that Pep Guardiola is concerned with his attacking options after Gabriel Jesus sustained knee ligament damage and will be sidelined for around six weeks.

West Ham and Crystal Palace among the club's interested in the Frenchman.

City are upped their interest in Sanchez in the last fortnight and believe they can seal a deal for the Chilean in the next week or so. In order to maintain their hold on the title however, a big statement in January could well be needed, and if more injuries strike Guardiola will need a deep squad.

It's why, as galling as it may be, the club may feel the sensible course of action is to take what they can in January and try to reinvest in the squad.

The 28-year-old has been in prolific form this season scoring 13 goals and providing three assists in just 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, and scored a further four goals in the UEFA Champions League group stage in a group which featured Tottenham and Real Madrid.

The Catalan reportedly hopes to see City secure the signing of Alexis Sanchez, as well as add another centre-back following Vincent Kompany's latest injury. It is possible that a compromise could be reached.
