President Trump Wants A Border Wall In Exchange For Keeping DACA

Trump wants $18 billion from Congress — not Mexico — to build wall

Trump As Tantrum-Prone Toddler? It's Not Really News To The GOP.

"I have a very good relationship with Mexico".

The Trump administration has proposed spending $18 billion over 10 years to significantly extend the border wall with Mexico.

The proposal by Customs and Border Protection calls for 505 kilometres of additional barrier by September 2027.

"I am not sure why President Trump wants to shut down the government over a multi-billion dollar wall that no one wants, is not needed and will not be paid for by Mexico", Sanders said in a statement. The entire border stretches nearly 2,000 miles, although much of it is already impassable.

Trump has demanded a border wall in exchange for passing legislation that would shield from deportation hundreds of thousands of young migrants brought to the USA as children, known as Dreamers.

Trump has pressured Democrats in Congress to approve the funding in exchange for allowing undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, and who had been protected by the Obama-era program known as DACA, to remain. Durbin is now working with four other Senators, three of whom are Republican, on a deal that will protect DACA while also beefing up border security, but it appears Trump's demands could stall talks.

His administration asked for $1.6 billion this year to build or replace 74 miles (118 kilometers) of fencing in Texas and California, and officials have said they also will seek $1.6 billion next year. So far, Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on a new deal.

The subject came up during a sit-down meeting with GOP lawmakers at the White House on Thursday.

Trump is basically saying that he will not fix granting "amnesty" to DACA recipients unless he gets the funding required for the wall and related expenditure.
