Feces-smearing passenger prompts flight diversion: Authorities

A United Airlines flight was diverted to Anchorage on Thursday night after a passenger smeared the inside of the cabin with his own feces.

The airline said the passenger, who was reportedly cooperative, was met by authorities in Anchorage.

United Airlines flight 895 from Chicago to Hong Kong was not even halfway through its flight when it was forced to land due to a "passenger smearing feces everywhere", according to Ted Stevens International Airport Police.

The man, who also tried to stuff his shirt in the toilet, forced the flight crew to divert to Alaska so he could be removed.

According to airport police, the alleged bathroom-destroyer cooperated with United Airlines staff and was escorted into police custody.

The identity of the man who caused the disturbance has not been released, KTUU reports, but he cooperated with airport police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents who questioned him after the plane landed in Anchorage.

No one was injured during the incident, KTUU reports.
