Obama to be David Letterman's first Netflix guest

The 44th President of the United States is expected to be Letterman's inaugural guest on his new hour-long Netflix series "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction".

David Letterman is out of retirement and returning to television with a six-episode, 60-minute Netflix series - My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.

Time has apparently made the heart grow fonder as he prepares for his new show.

Almost 14 million people watched Letterman's final show on CBS in May 2015.

Letterman, 70, who officially retired in 2015 after a 22-year run as the host of Late Show with David Letterman ― a very American melange of celebrity interviews, monologues and sketches ― had said in August that he would be back in 2018 on Netflix.

Called My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, the six-episode series will also feature interviews with actor George Clooney, rapper Jay-Z, radio shock jock Howard Stern, comedian Tina Fey and Pakistani education activist and Nobel Peace Prize victor Malala Yousafzai, the streaming service said. Netflix is set to release one new episode every month through June.

"And then the first day of Stephen's show, when he went on the air, an energy left me and I felt like, 'You know, that's not my problem anymore, '" Letterman told NBC's Tom Brokaw in 2016.

Obama has laid low since leaving the White House a year ago with the exception of a few public appearances and a radio interview with Britain's Prince Harry recorded in September and broadcast last month.
