Amazon Set To Acquire Home IoT Startup Blink
26 December 2017, 02:06 | Jenny Fowler
Amazon has acquired Blink maker of W-Fi security cameras and a new video doorbell for undisclosed terms
With Blink, Amazon looks to become more competitive in a consumer market that's seeing a nexus with enterprise IoT products through cloud-based artificial intelligence backends.
Home security company "Blink" was founded in 2014, and now sells a small connected security camera and a connected doorbell.
Though the financial terms of this acquisition wasn't revealed.
Blink's big draw is that its cameras are supposed to last for two years with just a pair of AA batteries, which means you can easily put them around a home without having to worry about wiring.

Amazon told CNBC, "As one of their distributors, we already know customers love their home security cameras and monitoring systems".
Blink's outdoor camera launched later on in 2016. The video door-bell that costs $99 also comes in battery powered. Blink was set up by Immedia, which develops chips for image processing and video compression, along with more affordable noise reduction. Blink could keep selling products under its own name, or we could see its tech migrated into Amazon-branded hardware.
In a message on its website, Blink said that "if you own one of our systems, nothing changes for now. We're excited to welcome their team and invent together on behalf of customers".
Assumedly, Amazon will use Blink's cameras in conjunction with its Key service for Amazon Prime members, which allows deliveries within people's homes when they aren't there. Amazon recently stretched its delivery arm inside homes with the debut of a smart lock and camera combination that also signalled a move into home security.
