Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today condemned the killing of a woman during an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The trapped militants tried to escape while firing their guns but soldiers retaliated, leading to a prolonged clash.

It was reported that the gunfight started on Monday evening in Batmuran village of Shopian district when the troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly surrounded the house. She had received fire arm injury in abdomen, according to a senior official of District hospital Pulwama.

Locals said that protests broke out in the area and villagers were trying to move towards the encounter site to give safe passage to militants. That's when this lady was hit with a bullet fired by the militants.

The puppet authorities snapped the mobile internet services in Shopian and suspended train service in the Kashmir Valley.
