New York Port Authority attack: Man held after Manhattan blast
The blast wreaked havoc on the commute, snarling the ride for customers using subways and buses in NY and New Jersey. Three other people also suffered minor injuries caused by being in the vicinity of the explosion, including ringing in the ears and headaches, police said.
- Recent Israeli actions in Gaza compelled Ullah to carry out the attack, a law enforcement source said. This came amid widespread protests over President Trump's move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Ullah held a Taxi & Limousine Commission license from March 2012 to March 2015, after which the license was not renewed, TLC spokesman Allan Fromberg said.
The device was attached to his body using Velcro and zip ties, NYPD Deputy Police Commissioner John Miller said. Ullah is seen laying on the ground after the smoke clears.

The authorities have termed the incident as a planned terror attack.
In a statement sent to CBS2 late Monday on behalf of the Ullah family, Council on American-Islamic Relations New York chapter Albert Fox Cahn said the family is "heartbroken by this attack on our city today and by the allegations being made against a member of our family". "These incidents are happening too frequently".
"This was an attempted terrorist attack", Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news conference at the scene. NY in December sees a surge of visitors who come to see elaborate store displays, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and Broadway shows.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the "reality" of the incident "better than the initial expectation". The officials said he lives in Brooklyn and may be of Bangladeshi descent.
The attempted attack comes just over a month after the deadly truck attack in which Sayfullo Saipov drove a pickup truck along the Hudson River Park bike path killing eight people and injuring 12.
Bratton said the explosion took place in one of the passageways at the Port Authority subway station, although was not certain which one. "More broadly, the administration continues to adopt significant security measures to keep terrorists from entering our country and from recruiting within our borders".
