Reports from Yemen say ex-President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed in clashes with the rival Houthi movement.

Yemen's pro-Houthi Al Masirah television station said the coalition bombed Saleh's residence and other houses of his family members.

A video circulating online on Monday showed Saleh's body with a gaping head wound dumped in a pickup truck by rebels — a grisly end recalling that of longtime strongman Saleh's contemporary, Libya's Moammar Gadhafi, in 2011. A Saudi Arabia-led military coalition fighting the Houthis continues to blockade much of the country. Saudi Arabia, concerned about Iran's support of the Houthis in a neighboring country, formed a coalition and intervened in support of Hadi.

The Saleh-Huthi alliance had been fraught since its inception in 2014, when the two ended decades of enmity and joined ranks to capture Sanaa from Hadi's government.

The government also reached out to Saleh's supporters with an offer of amnesty.

He stressed that the Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, have no enmity toward Saleh's party, the General People's Congress, which was Yemen's ruling party under Saleh but is now divided.

RSF's sources said the journalists were forced to surrender the TV channel's access codes, enabling the Houthis to broadcast their own content.

"We have notified the leader of the traitor and criminal militias to retract, be wise, to stop his militias from continuing committing crimes", he said, "Today is the day of the fall of the conspiracy of betrayal and treason".

Trump's brief, one paragraph statement is one of the clearest signs of US concern over aspects of Saudi Arabia's foreign policy.

The killing could either push the conflict towards United Nations peace negotiations or make it an "even more vicious war", Mattis told reporters. Armed men could be seen loading the body into the back of a pick-up truck in an empty, sandy lot.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the press.

Last month, Saudi Arabia imposed a blockade on Yemen after Houthi rebels fired a missile on the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

The ICRC said on Tuesday that another 400 people have been wounded in the clashes, which first erupted last week as the alliance between the rebels and Saleh's followers crumbled.

Suze van Meegen, Sanaa-based protection and advocacy adviser for the Norwegian Refugee Council, said Monday that the violence left aid workers trapped inside their homes and was "completely paralyzing humanitarian operations".

Coalition fighter jets carried out dozens of air strikes, both sides said, bombing Houthi positions inside Sanaa and in other northern provinces.
