The probe into Russia's influence over the last staged elections in the U.S. has continued to gather steam as United States special counsel Robert Mueller has reportedly asked Germany's Deutsche Bank to provide records of accounts held by President Donald Trump. The Department of Justice spent another $3.5 million to support the investigation. The special counsel has hired a small army of attorneys - 17 - to work the investigation.
Salaries and benefits during this period cost $1.7 million, including both SCO employees and DOJ employees detailed to the special counsel's office.
Another $733,969 was spent on equipment, but the report does not provide details.
So far, the special counsel has charged four people as part of the investigation including Manafort and Flynn.
Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog, last month sued the Justice Department in US District Court in DC for a copy of the budget.
In November, several Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives also introduced a resolution calling on Mueller to resign, saying he never disclosed to Congress the details of a bribery case involving the subsidiary of a Russian company that purchased U.S. uranium mines during his tenure as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Suffice it to say, for President Donald Trump's supporters who see the investigation as little more than a witch hunt, the reaction was not too pleasant.
"This investigation is impairing the legitimate conduct of the legitimately elected President of the United States".
In May, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to serve as special counsel for the Justice Department, and to oversee the investigation into "any links and/or coordination between Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump, and any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation".
Between outright denials of alleged collusion, open criticism of the FBI's reputation and the recent confession of his former national security adviser, Trump only heightened suspicions around him, especially with regard to his relations with Russian businessmen.
Mueller's next expense report is due at the end of March.
