Where Georgia is ranked in latest College Football Playoff poll

Kirk Herbstreit explains how Alabama can still make the Playoff

Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman favorite Baker Mayfield shows off the pearly whites

Clemson is the committee's No. 1 team, and Auburn and Wisconsin round out the top four. Meanwhile, Alabama is ranked No. 5 and could stand to move up should another team in the top four fall this weekend. Not only did the Tigers have a compelling stash of wins already, but they added to it last weekend with their 34-10 nonconference blasting of SC, which had debuted in the rankings last week at No. 24. Alabama, as expected, fell after getting knocked off by rival Auburn 26-14.

An Oklahoma loss to TCU is the best scenario for Alabama.

All that could change with Auburn and Georgia playing Saturday for the SEC championship and Wisconsin and Ohio State playing Saturday for the Big 10 title.

Ohio State would finish as 11-2 Big Ten champions. Even less likely. An idle, two-loss Penn State or a 12-0 UCF wouldn't make a dramatic jump in the final weekend, either. Alabama's nine Power Five victims are 53-54 this season, set against numbers such as that of Clemson (a marvelous 67-39), Auburn (54-30, with just seven Power Five victims but two top-tier ones in Georgia and Alabama), Oklahoma (57-51) and Georgia (57-49). It has three wins over ranked teams, and could lose one this week if SC drops out, but might gain one if Louisville (8-4) enters.

Alabama only has one loss and ended up playing a slightly tougher schedule in a better conference. The victor will get the Group of Five's guaranteed spot in a New Year's Six bowl game, but those teams are not even an afterthought in the playoff conversation. There are not enough earths in the multiverse to comprehend a world in which an undefeated Big Ten champion would not be included in a four-team College Football Playoff, no matter what you think about Wisconsin (and by the way, they're pretty good).

Alabama vs. Ohio State is the argument to end all arguments, and it will be close.

Auburn takes on Georgia in the SEC title game on Saturday in Atlanta. Clemson defeated Auburn earlier this year at Clemson, 14-6 and the Tigers downed Oklahoma in the 2015 College Football Playoff, semifinals 37-17.

The weekly hype video produced by the Buckeyes video team never disappoints, but they save their best stuff for the biggest matchups.

Yes, the Crimson Tide, who lost by 12 points at Auburn last weekend, sit in prime position to move back into the Final Four if certain things happen this weekend.

Those games appear to be win-and-you're-in situations. The lack of a marquee nonconference win - their game against Georgia Tech was canceled, although that wouldn't have helped much anyway - has hurt them, and they're far out of the conversation.

With No. 10 USC and No. 11 TCU staring up at the other contenders, they look like extreme long shots.

If Oklahoma wins, it's in.
