South African pageant crowned the world's most beautiful woman

President Jacob Zuma has congratulated the reigning Miss South Africa, Ms. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, on being crowned Miss Universe 2017 at the beauty pageant held yesterday in Las Vegas in the United States of America.

More than 90 women are taking part in the decades-old competition airing live on Fox from The AXIS theater at Planet Hollywood casino-resort.

In the "Final Word" portion of the competition, Miss Nel-Peters said: "Miss Universe is a woman who has overcome many fears, and by that she is able to help many women overcome their fears".

This year's edition of the Miss Universe pageant has separated contestants by geographic region for the first time.

Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez finished as first-runner up while Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett was named second-runner up.

In an interview with Fox News, Graham criticized Miss Universe and its American counterpart, Miss USA, for not featuring a single curvy contestant in their 60-plus-year runs.

The crowning of Nel-Peters evoked mixed reactions across the world and from different countries that had their own top contenders in the competition.

The Minister said also that, "she displayed poise, confidence and the true Jamaican spirit during the show".

In response, the South African beauty queen called for "equal work and equal pay" for women in the workplace, citing that women only get paid 75 percent of what men earn for doing the same job.

Harvey, a five-time Emmy Award victor, mentioned the moment from when he announced the wrong victor at 2015 Miss Universe.

Current Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere from France will crown her successor.

"She is a woman that nothing is ever too much to ask for". Miss Universe is a very strong motivator for several young woman out there, and Miss Universe should use this to their advantage to promote higher education in young woman, and show them that you can't have beauty without the brains.
