Families make it official on National Adoption Day

Children establish legacies on National Adoption Day

Demaun was one of more than 40 children who had their adoptions finalized.

In Ramsey County, 48 children celebrated their forever families on the 18th National Adoption Day on Saturday.

"We watch these children come in abused, neglected and abandoned and now we watch them leave in a safe loving nurturing home", said the Honorable Cindy Lederman from the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge in Juvenile Division.

"It's just a wonderful thing to help and see these children strive", said Kim Christie, who adopted her forever son Friday.

"I want her to know what a blessing she is for us and we feel like she is a gift", James said. "I think it's going to be amusing writing my name on paper now and having his last name", she said.

She got her wish four years later, after her brother had been living with her as a foster child for almost a year.

Twenty-five-year-old Chelsea Loughin was just adopted five years ago. "It's something you can really cherish".

Israel Archibald, 11, and his brother Aristotle Archibald, 9, were formally adopted Friday by a Newark family they lived with as foster children for five years.

At any given time, more than 600 children are in the foster care system in Orlando.

The Cohn's may not be done, as they look to adopt a little girl in the near future, and caseworkers say they hope more families, like the Holley's and Cohn's, will open their hearts and homes to the almost 4-thousand children and teens in the state waiting patiently to find a forever family.
