Musk has said Tesla is also working on a pickup truck and a lower-cost SUV and negotiating a new factory in China. On the one hand, the Tesla Semi is shaping up to be the hot-rod of trucks, with a 0-60 miles per hour time of 20 seconds even when at maximum 80,000 pound load. The power of the Semi also allows it to go 65mph (104kph) up 5% grades thanks to its four independent motors on rear axles.

Tesla spent $1.1 billion on its auto business in the third quarter, and expects expenses of $1 billion in the current one.

"With Enhanced Autopilot, the Tesla Semi features Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Lane Keeping and Lane Departure Warning". It was a typical Tesla event, full of twists, shocks, and plenty of smoke and mirrors. Torque sensors on the individual wheels, along with software that can correct steering, will make jackknifing impossible, Musk said.

The Semi has a range of 300 or 500 miles (482km or 804km) while driving at maximum weight at highway speeds.

The report found that South Africa is the favourite to win the bid. "We thank World Rugby for replying to our letter". A World Rugby Council meeting was held in London on Wednesday and France was chosen to host the 10th event.

Just like it has built a global network of "superchargers" for its passenger EVs, Tesla plans to build a network of "megachargers" around the world for trucks refuelling on the go, with the powerful plugs able to deliver 400 miles of charge in less than 30 minutes.

Tesla claims the electric costs of the Semi are half that of a traditional diesel semi truck, thanks to fewer systems to maintain (no transmission or brake pads to name a few), providing a number of over $200,000 United States dollars in fuel savings, and a two-year payback period. The vehicle can travel up to 125 miles on one charge.

"It's not like any truck that you've ever driven", Tesla CEO Elon Musk hyped from the stage at Tesla's LA facility. Using four separate electric motors, the Semi will go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in five seconds, compared with 15 seconds in a diesel cab, Musk said. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullsh!t.

Unlike the previous version of the Roadster, Tesla's first model which went out of production in 2012, this vehicle will have four seats. The vehicle will be available in 2020. Elon Musk recently described it as "production hell". "This could present another distraction from really just making sure that the Model 3 is moved along effectively", said Bruce Clark, a senior vice president and automotive analyst at Moody's.
