Facebook is trying to combat “revenge porn” by encouraging users to submit their nude

Facebook is asking its Australian users to send their nude pics in order to avoid revenge porn on social media.

The "preemptive revenge porn defense" will be tested in Australia and 3 other countries for now, and to execute the idea, Facebook will be partnering with e-Safety, an Australian government agency focused on preventing digital abuse.

Facebook's hashing system would then be able to recognize those images in the future without needing to store them on its servers.

NY lawyer Carrie Coldberg, who specialises in sexual privacy, told The Guardian: "We are delighted that Facebook is helping solve this problem - one faced not only by victims of actual revenge porn but also individuals with worries of imminently becoming victims".

Vikings activate QB Teddy Bridgewater, move Sam Bradford to IR
Meanwhile, coach Mike Zimmer announced Case Keenum will make his seventh start of the season for the game at Washington on Sunday. Bridgewater, who turns 25 on Friday, has been leading the scout team offense since returning to practice three weeks ago.

Australia's e-safety commissioner Julia Inman Grant told ABC, 'We see many scenarios where maybe photos or videos were taken consensually at one point, but there was not any sort of consent to send the images or videos more broadly'. The company will use the photo to make a digital footprint so its image-matching technology can stop someone from uploading a copy. The tricky part? You have to know the picture you don't want spread around, and upload it to a special Facebook program. "My concern has to do with where those images would then be stored after they've been provided to Facebook", he added.

"Once we hash the photo, we notify the person who submitted the report via the secure email they provided to the eSafety Commissioner's office and ask them to delete the photo from the Messenger thread on their device", Davis writes.

"This pilot has the potential to disable the control and power perpetrators hold over victims, particularly in cases of ex-partner retribution and sextortion, and the subsequent harm that could come to them", said Grant in a news release. Further instances of the images will then be blocked.
