NBA Trade Updates: Bucks, Suns seal Bledsoe deal; Knicks shopping big man

The Milwaukee Bucks Just Added Eric Bledsoe

NBA Rumors: Suns Trading Eric Bledsoe To Bucks For Greg Monroe, First-Rounder

The freaky Eric Bledsoe/Phoenix Suns stalemate was resolved on Tuesday morning when ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe reported that the point guard would be heading to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for centre Greg Monroe and a protected first-round pick.

Wojnarowski previously reported the Bucks wanted to add Bledsoe but were not willing to give up young, talented players like Malcolm Brogdon, Thon Maker or Jabari Parker, who should return from injury later this season.

Just nine games into the season, the Milwaukee Bucks made the biggest move of the National Basketball Association season so far Tuesday morning, and on many accounts they already seem to have won the trade.

Coming off a career season where he averaged 21.1 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds, many felt Bledsoe had given up on the Suns.

Bledsoe will meet with the team in San Antonio on Thursday ahead of Saturday's game against the Spurs. The trade has given the Bucks a $3.38 million trade exception that will be available to use for one year, in addition to their $5 million trade exception that will expire in February.

The Bucks now have $106 million lined up in contracts next season, about $16 million below the luxury tax. Phoenix could have seven first-round picks from 2018 to 2021.

According to ESPN, the first-round pick Milwaukee is sending to the Suns is lottery-protected and likely to be near the back end anyway, given the team's playoff expectations, which demonstrates that - despite his undeniable ability - Bledsoe had little value and Phoenix no leverage in trade negotiations, given the circumstances. Bledsoe claimed that he was at a hair salon with his wife, and that the tweet was about that, but he had also reportedly requested a trade earlier in the preseason that was not granted.

Last summer was surely the time to move Bledsoe, whose unhappiness on a losing team was predictable - particularly after the Suns sat him out after last year's trade deadline to pursue a better pick.

Bledsoe has been away from the Suns (4-7) since general manager Ryan McDonough sent him home on October 23.

We provided our immediate reaction to the news, discussing what Bledsoe should bring to the Bucks, and the all-important price the Bucks paid to acquire him. Bledsoe was told by management, according to sources, that the team had underperformed ever since he was given starting point guard responsibilities. He had been averaging 15.7 points per game, second behind Devin Booker, and was the team's on-court leader. Bledsoe spent the past five seasons in Phoenix after his first three years with the Clippers. His production dipped last season, when he played 81 games without making a start.
