Why not one more time?
No. 7 Penn State and No. 24 Michigan State have resumed their game after a weather delay of almost 3½ hours, with the Nittany Lions leading 14-7 in the second quarter Saturday.
Long-time Penn State radio voice Steve Jones said he couldn't ever recall a Lions game being delayed during play, although the 2000 game against Ohio State in Columbus was pushed back a half-hour due to weather.
It was Michigan State's second win against a No. 7 opponent after beating Michigan 14-10 in Ann Arbor on October 7. "I saw a few of our players running off the field, not going to shake hands, and we're going to win with class and we are going to lose with class, and we are going to shake people's hands and give them credit because they deserved it".
Michigan State is coming off a 39-31 triple OT loss to Northwestern on the road last week to fall to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Big Ten. It was aided by a roughing the passer call against Nittany Lions safety Marcus Allen on Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke after a third down incompletion. He did break Michigan State's single game passing yards record with 445 and he looked like a future star.
What seems like a commonality, another MSU wide receiver had a career day as Davis III brought in 12 receptions for 181 receiving yards and a touchdown. Offensively, Michigan State is putting up 23.8 points and 393.6 yards per contest.
Both running attacks were limited to under 100 yards each, with the Nittany Lions raking in 65 rushing yards and MSU running for 74 yards.
Bank of England hikes interest rates by 0.25 pct It is likely to be the first of a number of rises over the next five years with forecasts indicating it could reach 2.25% by 2022. The first of these rate increases isn't fully priced in until November/December next year, and the second one not until 2020.
Penn State opened the scoring on its second possession by driving 92 yards - 90 of them through the air - in seven plays.
Halftime allowed the Spartans to make adjustments to take the lead because of a three-yard touchdown run by LJ Scott. Penn State is 6-1-1 against the spread this season, only failing to cover in a win at Iowa. Penn State had a 14-7 lead.
Things kicked off at noon and made it into the second quarter. The Spartans tied the score on a 32-yard field goal by Matt Coghlin with 10:56 left in the fourth quarter. Davis attempted to make a catch at the sideline but tipped the ball with one hand and intercepted by Amani Oruwariye at the Nittany Lions' 24-yard line. The Spartans took over and then mounted the game-winning drive.
Bruce Feldman's FOX crew covering this game is the same one that was in Kansas State for the KSU-TCU matchup that had a weather delay October 14.
Penn State was missing a pair of starters in offensive tackle Ryan Bates and defensive end Ryan Buchholz.
Penn State should be ready to erase last weekend's loss from its memory.
