Sir Michael Fallon has resigned as Defence Secretary as British politics is engulfed in a sexual harassment scandal.
Fallon was described by sources in her ruling Conservative Party as a political "Rottweiler".
"It can not be right, when dealing with serious issues relating to behaviour in Parliament, that vulnerable or concerned people are expected to navigate different grievance procedures according to political party", Ms May said.
Fallon apologised on Monday for touching a radio presenter's knee in 2002 - something the woman in question described on social media as "mildly amusing". Fallon said his conduct had "fallen short" of the required standards, telling the BBC, "I think we've all got to look back now at the past, there are always things you regret, you would have done differently".
"I have therefore reflected on my position in Government and I am resigning as Defence Secretary".
