In January, Apple sued Qualcomm for almost $1 billion for charging a hefty price for royalties on technologies that Apple said the chipmaker should not be associated with. Qualcomm alleges in the latest suit that Apple failed to protect the chipmaker's software and isn't allowing an audit to review how the iPhone maker handles the software, an obligation that Qualcomm says is included in their contract. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday at the California State Court in San Diego. "Apple copied an Intel engineer in the email for information". Earlier this month, Qualcomm filed suits in Beijing to ban iPhone production in China. Notably, the lawsuit comes days after a report that Apple is designing future generation iPhones that don't use a Qualcomm chip at all. Qualcomm's move was likely prompted by Apple's recent $1 billion lawsuit against the chipmaker in which it claimed it has "nothing to do with" technologies that Qualcomm was seeking royalty payments for. The sources who leaked the plan said that next year's iPhone and iPad models could already be built with components from other manufacturers, namely Intel or Taiwan-based MediaTek Inc. Qualcomm are claiming Apple breached their contracted agreement, which was arranged regarding the software necessary for mobile chips to interact with the rest of an Apple handset.
