A Maryland graduate student who hoped to one day help depressed youths was killed over the weekend when a 12-year-old leaped from an overpass and onto the vehicle she was driving.

The 12-year-old boy, who hasn't been identified, was rushed to Fairfax Inova Hospital to be treated for "life-threatening injuries", according to police.

Harris, of Olney, Maryland, was studying for a masters degree in mental health counseling at Marymount University.

In a statement, Towson University spokesman Ray Feldmann said: "Our Towson University family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our alumna, Marisa Harris". He landed on her SUV about 4:15 p.m.

Bruce said his niece was just getting started to live an altruistic life helping children.

Harris' mom called it "ironic" saying the boy who killed her is a child she would have helped.

"That's the irony that we're at looking at right now", her father, Patrick Harris, told the Washington Post.

Marymount University officials informed students of Harris' death via email.

Locked in cooler, man decides to sit and drink beer
A man who was accidentally locked inside of a beer cooler at a gas station stayed inside and helped himself to beer overnight. A customer had noticed the 38-year-old man inside the cooler around 6 a.m., and when employees opened it, he fled.

Officials said they found nothing mechanically wrong with the vehicle, but were unable to recover information from a water-damaged device on the vehicle that records speed, acceleration and breaking.

AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesman Tom Calcagani advised drivers to stay aware of their surroundings.

He was uninjured, police said.

Harris's uncle said Harris's boyfriend was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash.

There is fencing on the Cedar Lane overpass, but it only extends above the Metro tracks that run between the lanes of traffic.

If it were built today, it would have a fence all the way around.

The boy threw himself 30 feet off this I-66 overpass near Exit 62.
