"Receiving our third consecutive "A" grade demonstrates Coastal Carolina Hospital's commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care", Joel Taylor, CEO of Coastal Carolina Hospital, said in a press release.
The Hospital Safety grades, ranging from A to F, rate how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, injuries, errors and infections.
National Leapfrog safety grades also show three changes locally. "We congratulate the clinicians, board members, management and staff of St. Catherine Hospital for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first".
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, which scores more than 2,600 hospitals every fall and spring, ranked Coastal Carolina and Beaufort Memorial hospitals among some of the best hospitals in the country in patient safety.

With 46.2 percent of participating hospitals receiving an A, Colorado ranked 10th in the US and second among states in the Rocky Mountain West, behind only Idaho.
North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland and NY had the lowest percent of hospitals earning an "A" grade.
"What we've learned is that transparency has a real impact on patient safety", Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog, said in a statement. The five states with the lowest percentage of A-grade hospitals are Washington, D.C., North Dakota, Delaware, Maryland and NY. The five states with the biggest improvements include Rhode Island, which ranked as the best state overall on the most recent report, was ranked 50th in 2012.
Using this online database, you can look up a specific hospital or search by community. Numerous 15 hospitals that received F grades treat a high proportion of low-income patients with complex healthcare needs.
Based on that data, Leapfrog measures 27 aspects of patient health and safety. If data in several categories is missing, Leapfrog won't rank that hospital.
