Greater Manchester is bracing itself today for the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia.

A major recovery operation was swinging into action tonight after Storm Ophelia caused havoc as it continued to barrel across the United Kingdom for a second day.

Help from Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom is expected to be drafted in on Wednesday to help restore power. The storm has now moved off into the North Sea.

A derelict block of flats earmarked for partial demolition collapsed in Glasgow and a scout hall roof was blown off in Dumfries and Galloway.

"These strong winds are forecast in association with the northward track of ex-Ophelia across or near to the west of the British Isles".
