ESPN Suspends Jemele Hill Over New Tweets On Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Threat To Bench Players
Cable sports network ESPN on Mondaysuspended broadcaster Jemele Hill for two weeks for violating its social media guidelines after she tweeted about ongoing National Football League player protests. Trump called for an apology from the network on Twitter, while ESPN issueda statement at the time, writing that Hill's statement do not reflect the views of the network.
"Jemele Hill has been suspended for two weeks for a second violation of our social media guidelines", the network said in a statement.
Hill's tweets came in response to Jones' announcement that any Cowboys players that do not stand for the National Anthem will not be permitted to take the field. Hill said that "Jerry Jones also has created a problem for his players, specifically the black ones". Jemele Hill called the president of the United States a "white supremacist" on Twitter. Change happens when advertisers are impacted. "If you feel strongly about JJ's statement, boycott his advertiser", Hill tweeted on Sunday with a link to a tweet featuring several of the Cowboys' advertisers. Instead, she notes that fans that are upset by Jones' controversial comments can take action in responsible ways.
