Mother sentenced to jail time for going against court order, not vaccinating son
Rebecca Bredow, from a suburb of Detroit in MI, had initially agreed with her nine-year-old son's father that the child would be immunised. A judge ordered her to jail for a week.
She claimed that immunising her son would "go against my beliefs", adding: 'I would rather sit behind bars standing up for what I believe in, than giving in to something I strongly don't believe in'.
Bedrow had one week to get her 9-year-old son vaccinated, according to an order by an Oakland County judge.
"You agreed in a consent order to vaccinate your child, one". "If my child was forced to be vaccinated, I couldn't bring myself to do it".
MI parents are legally allowed to skip or delay their children's vaccinations due to personal beliefs.
The mother-of-two was sentenced on Wednesday for contempt of court after flouting a court order last week to have her son vaccinated.

Signs of Kim Jong-nam being poisoned, doctor tells court North Korea has refused to accept the dead man was Kim Jong Un's half brother, suggesting instead he died of a heart attack. Their lawyers argue the women were duped and the true culprits were North Korean agents who told the women what to do.
She and her ex had decided when their son was born that they would space out and delay vaccinations for their son.
The couple separated in 2008, according to ABC News, but they shared parental custody and the father still wanted the boy vaccinated.
But when Bredow refused to go through with the remaining vaccinations, her ex-husband asked the judge to force Bredow, who has primary custody of the child, to comply with their prior agreement.
Child immunisation rates in MI are among the worst in the nation, ranking 43rd among the 50 USA states, according to Mlive. "I feel like my rights as a parent have been taken away", she says.
Bredow argued her ex-husband, James Horne, had known about her objection to vaccinations for a long time and was making an issue of it now because she'd been trying to collect back child support, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Along the bottom of the screen, to the left of the spectrum of colors you're used to seeing, you'll see a new eyedropper icon. The temporal nature of Instagram Stories (they're only viewable for 24 hours) makes pairing them with polls a smart idea.
