Liquor baron Vijay Mallya arrested in London in money laundering case
Mallya was re-arrested Tuesday and charged at Westminster Court in central London.
Mallya served various notices by different agencies and courts to appear in hearings but after skipping them continuously, the court eventually granted him the tag of absconder and issued arrest warrant against him. The charges are part of an investigation into defaults of loans worth around Rs9,000 crore by Mallya's defunct Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. India had made an extradition request in February to Britain to send back the businessman to face trial.
The hearing on December 4 is estimated to last eight days and the judge may make a decision on India's extradition request at the conclusion of the hearing, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
This came after a year-long wait where the Indian government wanted the United Kingdom to deport Mallya. The ED had sought the warrant against the liquor baron for crimes under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
According to Reuters, the next hearing in the case will take place on 20 November with a full eight-day extradition hearing due to start on 4 December.

Bayern sack Ancelotti after defeat at PSG The 58-year-old was relieved of his duties after Bayern fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of PSG in the Champions League. Bayern Munich have confirmed that they have parted ways with manager Carlo Ancelotti after a poor start to the season.
The UK Police had earlier arrested the liquor baron on April 18, 2017 on separate charges of fraud but he was released on the bail.
Indian Formula One team owner has repeatedly defended himself on Twitter.
Officials said all the evidence regarding "falsities, misstatements and false representations" of Mallya, Kingfisher Airlines and its officials had been forwarded to the authorities in UK.
As of now, Mallya is charged only in the Rs 900 crore IDBI loan case.
However, the controversial business tycoon was immediately let out on bail - the second time he secured his release after an arrest in London ever since he fled India. The UK investigators also suspect that he was also involved in laundering money to Switzerland and other countries.
