Monty Hall, legendary host of 'Let's Make a Deal,' dead at 96
He moved to Los Angeles after earning a spot as a host of a failed game show in 1960, but three years later teamed up with that show's creator, Stefan Hatos, to create and produce "Let's Make a Deal".
This game show's uniqueness became popular with the American audience and the format eventually went on to become a global phenomenon and his show has since been produced in many other countries as well.Hall's lines from the game show " Or would you rather have what's in the box that Jay's bringing down the aisle" was remembered as a favorite pickup line by many. But the enduring, mystifying appeal of Hall was how much, how deeply, the contestants loved him, even though they shouldn't have: He was a resident trickster god, a double-agent, always working against them to ensure the show would land, would have stakes, would get people talking. The "Monty Hall Problem", which ends with a counter-intuitive solution, includes three doors, two goats, and a auto.
Another daughter, Joanna Gleason, is a longtime Broadway and television actress. Aided by model Carol Merrill and announcer Jay Stewart, Hall wandered the studio, giving modest prizes or cash to audience members and then offering them the chance to trade their prize for a potentially better deal, sight unseen. Hall also made appearances on TV shows including "That '70s Show" and "Good Morning America".
Hall remained involved in Let's Make a Deal to the end, as an owner of the show and an occasional guest.

Moving to NY in 1955, he joined forces with writer-producer Stefan Hatos, and the two created the show that would make his name. But bitten by the stage bug thanks to appearances in student shows, he left for NY. He re-invented the catch phrase when announcing who would compete next on Let's Make A Deal.
However, Sharon Hall said Hall never refused an autograph and used his fame to help others.
Hall was repeatedly honored for his charity efforts, with awards including the Order of Canada, Order of Manitoba and Variety Clubs International's Humanitarian Award. In addition to his daughters, Monty Hall is survived by his son, Richard; a brother, Robert Hall of Toronto, Canada, and five grandchildren.
Hall and his wife, Marilyn Plottel, married in 1947.
