Man City confirms Mendy has ruptured knee ligament

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy could miss most of the rest of the season after City confirmed that he had ruptured knee ligaments. The club, itself, has not given downtime. The £49million summer signing from Monaco has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, likely keeping the France global out for most of the season in his first year in English football.

Mendy, a 23-year-old left-back signed for £52 million, damaged his cruciate ligament on his right knee when playing for the Citizens against Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium on Saturday (23/09/2017).

Speaking ahead of Saturday's visit to Chelsea, Guardiola confirmed Mendy would undergo surgery on Friday afternoon in Barcelona and would be out until the time of the Champions League semi-final.

He joked on his Twitter feed that he would be joining "Injury FC" on loan for a couple of months but hoped to return stronger.
