Taylor Swift wins Groping Case, awarded $1 in Damages
16 August 2017, 03:55 | Clyde Nash
Swift's fame made the task even more daunting he said because her face is so well known
After the tears, the victory: a court in Denver has given himself completely because Monday to superstar Taylor Swift, who accused the DJ, David Mueller, of sexual assault for him to have grabbed the buttocks during a photo session in 2013.
On June 2, 2013, touring on his " Red Tour ", 23-year-old Taylor Swift lends himself to a photo shoot with David Mueller, host of the Kygo radio station in Denver, Colorado. Instead of moving on from his life, however, Mueller sued Swift for $3 million in 2015, stating that her false accusation caused him to lose his $150,000 a year job. To MacFarland asking if Swift was critical of her bodyguard for failing to prevent Mueller from groping her, Swift said, "I'm critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass".
After Mueller sued, Swift countersued for assault and battery.
Praising Swift after the case, Mr Baldridge said: 'It takes wonderful people like Taylor to stand up and draw these lines.
After Monday's verdict, Swift hugged her crying mom and thanked her attorneys "for fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support throughout this four-year ordeal and two-year-long trial process".
"My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard", the singer said in a statement, acknowledging her ability to afford attorneys to defend her in court.
It is a known fact that although there are a lot of documented cases of sexual assault, there's still a significant percentage of cases that are undocumented because the victims are too scared to speak up or get some help. His lawyer, Golden-based Gabriel McFarland, pointed out during closing arguments that Mueller asked while he was being accosted by Swift's security the police get called.
Mueller claims he wasn't ready for the photo, and says the awkward angle of his hand behind Swift was purely accident because he squeezed into the shot at the last minute.
Swift's mother testified that she asked the radio station's liaison to call Mueller's bosses but didn't contact the cops to avoid further traumatizing her daughter. Now, after that small yet important victory, Swift can finally begin to take the steps to put this hard matter behind her. "And I can pass a polygraph", Mueller said.
