The Latest: Trump says US nuke arsenal 'stronger' than ever

Donald Trump struck a defiant stance against North Korea on Tuesday afternoon, warning of severe retribution should the authoritarian state proceed with any more missile tests or threats.

Trump had told North Korea to not "make any more threats" to the USA or the country "will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen".

Dow e-minis were down 35 points, or 0.16 percent, with 37,467 contracts changing hands at 8:40 a.m. ET (1240 GMT).

But even faced with the possibility of military action by Kim Jong-un's police state, Wall Street still suggests a buy-and-hold strategy.

Canadian stocks may fall Wednesday after tensions between the US and North Korea escalated. The S&P 500, a broader gauge of USA companies, fell 0.24 percent to 2,474.92. The Nasdaq composite lost 18 points, or 0.3 percent, to 6,352. Net income fell to US$3 million from US$36 million in the year-ago quarter.

Travel website operator Priceline fell 6.54 percent, while travel-review website operator TripAdvisor was down 7.51 percent after both the companies issued disappointing forecasts.

Japan's Nikkei 225 was down 1.25% and South Korea's Kospi declined 0.68%.
