Tillerson: US Willing to Talk to North Korea If Missile Tests Stop

Fox News N. Korean Patrol Boat Carrying Antiship Missiles Detected

President Donald Trump warned North Korea that it could face "fire and fury" after a new report Tuesday said USA intelligence believes Pyongyang has successfully produced a nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles.

The president said Kim Jong-un would be met with "fire and fury" should he continued to threaten America with a missile attack.

His harsh comments to reporters came hours after The Washington Post, citing a confidential Defense Intelligence Agency report, said North Korea has produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles.

That approach paid off last weekend when the United Nations Security Council unanimously approved a resolution imposing unprecedentedly tough economic sanctions on North Korea.

However, the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, was chagrined that Trump would retweet a report about "something unimportant" that nonetheless "reveals something about our surveillance capabilities". Only 21 percent say they would support an agreement that saw North Korea halt its nuclear program but not give up its existing weapons (17 percent of Republicans and 26 percent of Democrats).

At times the administration seemed to signal, nearly casually, that it was considering a preemptive strike on North Korea, which could trigger a land war on the Korean peninsula and the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

Speaking at a Security Council meeting, the United States envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley, said the new resolution is the hardest package of sanctions against any country.

The Fox News report, which was about us spy satellites detecting North Korean missile movements, included quotations from officials who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive information.

Separately, Japan's defense ministry assessed in a report on Tuesday that it is possible that North Korea has achieved the miniaturization of nuclear weapons and has developed nuclear warheads.

Mr Trump has repeatedly complained about leaks of government information to the press.

US President Donald Trump has yet again called for tough and decisive action over the "dangers posed by North Korea", while praising the solidarity over the crisis.

"There is no bigger mistake than the United States believing that its land is safe across the ocean", he said.
