Why lone gunman mowed down 8 worshippers in Anambra Catholic Church
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has condemned the gunman who opened fire on the congregation of St. Philip's Catholic Church on Sunday morning.
The governor said that the attackers who attacked the church opened fire when they perceived that one of the people they are targeting has his vehicle parked outside the church.
"We are not going to relent until we bring those that perpetrated this heinous crime to book", he said.
"Today, my heart goes out to Nigeria's Christian community, Gov. Willy Obiano, the people of Anambra and the families of the victims and the survivors of this bad massacre".
According to the priest, an unidentified man came into the Church, shot at a man, Akunwafor Ikegwuonwu, before shooting sporadically at other worshippers.
An eyewitness, who identified herself as a choir member, said the church was dark as there was no light.

Speaking in an interview with TVC News, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Garba Umar said the eleven worshippers were shot dead by the gunmen after they missed their target whom they had traced to the Church.
The governor expressed grief over the death of the worshippers, describing the attack as "barbaric, sacrilegious and totally unacceptable", while also debunking speculations of possible invasion.
Umar, however, explained that the attack was not unconnected to what he described as gang violence between some indigenes of the state.
He dismissed reports that the incident was a church invasion.
