Trump suggests he was trying to keep FBI director honest

FBI Director James Comey testifies before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 22, 2017.whether there are "tapes" or recordings of my conversations with James Comey, but I did not make, and do not have, any such recordings.

Asked whether Mr Mueller should recuse himself from the inquiry because of his friendship with Mr Comey, Mr Trump said: "Well he's very, very good friends with Comey which is very bothersome".

"He had been honest and told the President on three separate occasions that the President wasn't under investigation and what we know now is there was no collusion and the only person who actually leaked was, in fact, Director Comey", he said. Mr Mueller's team is now reportedly investigating whether Mr Trump attempted to obstruct justice in his comments to Mr Comey about the FBI's investigation, and whether he furthered that attempted obstruction by firing the former FBI chief.

The president gave an interview to Fox & Friends, making news on comments relating to the Russian Federation investigation. For five-and-a-half weeks, the president and senior White House officials refused to tell the public whether such tapes exist.

BBC reports his interview with Fox & Friends on Friday, where Trump is quoted as saying "there has been no obstruction".

You said you didn't tape [former FBI Director] James Comey.

Only 27 percent of Americans approve of Trump firing Comey, while 46 percent disapprove, the poll shows.

Trump has also repeatedly claimed that millions of illegal immigrants voted in the last election, with no proof.

José Mourinho accused of £2.9m tax fraud
Previously, the current Manchester United manager headed up Chelsea , Inter Milan, FC Porto, União de Leiria and Benfica. Mr Mourinho, 54, is accused of two counts of tax fraud - €1.6m in 2011 and €1.7m in 2012.

Broken down by party, 76 percent of Democrats believed Comey while 50 percent of Republicans believed Trump.

Over the course of several months, and prior to his Senate hearing, Comey privately told Trump he wasn't being investigated in the ongoing Russian Federation probe - something Comey was reluctant to say publicly.

"You've got to ask the question: Why is somebody threatening tapes other than to try to intimidate somebody?"

Comey told lawmakers in testimony this month that as he laid awake in his northern Virginia bed a week after he was summarily fired, he made a decision to act - in large part because of Trump's tweet. They played pivotal roles in a 2004 White House confrontation and have spoken warmly of each other over the years, with Comey describing Mueller as "one of the finest people I've ever met".

Trump has also cast doubt on the assessment of 17 USA intelligence agencies that have alleged Russian Federation interfered with the presidential election through propaganda "active measures" and hacking. This entire question is about how Trump's story changed.

"Look, there has been no obstruction", Trump told Fox. "He did admit that what I said was right".

His tweet came a day before he was required by Congress to hand over any such tapes.

At a Senate committee hearing this month, Comey suggested that the president's reference to possible recordings inspired him to disclose to the media through an intermediary a memo he had written of an Oval Office conversation from February. Columbia law school professor Daniel Richman, another friend of Comey's, shared the document with The Times after being provided a copy by the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief.
